The Social Impact Center’s Systems Navigation program connects community members with streamlined and simplified information about California’s public benefits and offers them a more community-based support system for assistance with applying for those benefits. We take the guesswork out of trying to determine where to go to get benefits and will work with the community to make the application process as easy as possible.

The Unlocking the Empath Program embodies this vision through a 6-week holistic group experience designed for individuals navigating post-conviction poverty. With year-round mental health workshops and healing circles, participants are provided safe and supportive spaces to process collective trauma while engaging with GOGI mental health tools and Mindology Fitness principles. An individual’s criminal record can stay with them long after they have completed their sentence. These 44,000 restrictions on where they can live, work, and thrive are known as collateral consequences. By removing these collateral consequences, TSIC is able to break intergenerational cycles of poverty and help individuals attain better jobs, more stable housing, and improved mental health. TSIC continues to expand its reentry efforts, in alignment with policies such as SB 731, to provide direct expungement services, legal support, and educational resources to those impacted by the criminal justice system. By leveraging innovative technology, we ensure that these services are accessible and efficient, empowering individuals to reclaim their lives and advocate for a just future.By helping community members take advantage of this law, TSIC contributes to reducing recidivism, strengthening families and supporting communities’ growth. In addition, TSIC will be assisting individuals that continue to experience barriers to reentry following their expungement. Whether it is private background check providers misreporting information or employers/landlords not following the law, TSIC will now be able to help enforce the work that we have been doing with expungement.
